3.5lb Folding Grapnel Boat Anchor Kit by BEST Marine and Outdoors
3.5lb Folding Grapnel Boat Anchor Kit consists of small, 3.5 pounds (~1.6 kg) heavy folding grapnel anchor and 40 feet (~12.2 m) of 3/8 inch (~10 mm) thick marine rope. Also, this set contains small buoy ball, storage nylon bag and stainless steel carabiner.
3.5lb Folding Grapnel Boat Anchor Kit is suitable for fishing kayaks and other small boats that must be anchored in calm waters, during calm weather.
3.5 pounds folding grapnel anchor is galvanized for rust protection and can be used in both fresh and salt water. However, if used regularly in salt water, it is good practice to wash it with fresh water and dry with a cloth prior wintering or longer pauses.
Anchor is of folding design and folded its dimensions are just 12 x 3 inches (~30.5 x 7.6 cm), requiring minimum storage space onboard kayaks and other similar vessels.
Anchor's four fluke grapple design allows the anchor to be used on most common bottom types, including sand, weed and rocky bottoms.
However, note that the anchor is very light and it doesn't feature anchor chain to help with holding force - if required, small weight (1/2 - 1 pound) can be added to the rope few feet/yards away from the anchor.
Rope that comes with this anchor kit is 40 feet (12.2 m) long and 3/8 inch (10 mm) thick and it features small buoy ball and the steel carabiner.
Rope itself is more than strong enough for such anchor, but kind of short when fishing in deeper waters. Also, such rope is durable enough to withstand 'contacts' with sharp rocks and other similar object - use it freely, but don't abuse it, at least not too much :)
For short, if you plan on anchoring in deeper waters, replace this rope with longer 3/8 inch rope (avoid knots of any kind on the anchor rope, if possible).
Steel carabiner enables the fisherman to quickly release the anchor, if required - good safety feature.
Note: buoy ball is designed and intended to float at the surface of the water (pond, lake, river, ocean...) in the shallow waters - it can't lift the anchor of the sea bottom!
Fishermen wanting to add a buoy large enough to be able to lift the anchor off the bottom should aim for the buoy of at least 6-7 pounds floating capacity (if anchor chain is NOT added).
Long Story Short: 3.5lb Folding Grapnel Boat Anchor Kit contains everything one needs to anchor the kayak, jet-ski, or other similar vessel in shallow waters and during calm weather.
Holding force can be increased by adding 5-6 feet of anchor chain, just note that it also increases the weight of the anchor kit.
For anchoring in deeper waters, one has to use longer rope.
This is simple, all-in-one, easy to maintain anchor set - if you need such anchor set, consider this one.
