SeaSense Double Braid Nylon Dockline
SeaSense Double Braid Nylon Dockline is pre-spliced, double braid, nylon rope, whipped on both ends. It comes in several colors, thicknesses and lengths and at acceptable price.
Dockline comes in black, blue and grey color; 3/8" (9.5mm), 1/2" (12.7mm) and 5/8" (16mm) thick.
Docklines 3/8" thick are available as 15 and 20 feet (4.5 and 6.1m) long ropes, 1/2" docklines are available as 15, 20 and 25 feet (4.5, 6.1 and 7.6m) long ropes and 5/8" docklines are available as 20 and 25 feet (6.1 and 7.6m) long ropes.
Ropes come with limited life time warranty - IMHO, that means that they are really well made, but if they get damaged by user's fault, no warranty. Logically.
Anyway, ropes are really well made - rope is relatively soft (surface), but it is strong and easy to handle.
Recommended rope use is given in the following table:
|Rope Diameter Guide|
|Rope Diameter||Max Recommended Boat Length||Max Recommended Working Load|
|3/8"||21' (6.4m)||410 lbs (185kg)|
|1/2"||32' (9.8m)||750 lbs (340kg)|
|5/8"||43' (13.1m)||1030 lbs (465kg)|
Although these lines are not the cheapest one of this type, especially if you are purchasing more ropes (for example, 1 bow line, 2 spring lines and 1 stern line, plus one spare line) and thicker lines are more expensive, personally, I wouldn't use 3/8" rope for anything but small pontoon boats and kayaks. Not so much because of the strength, but thicker line is easier to grab by hands, work width and in the end, pull when needed.
