LR44 Battery Equivalents - LR44 vs SR44SW
LR44 and SR44SW are very popular button/coin cell batteries commonly used as batteries in small remotes, as wrist watch batteries, in small toys, LED flashlights, and similar.
LR44 and SR44SW are button/coin cell batteries featuring same physical dimensions, but different chemistries and thus slightly different electrical characteristics.
Although they are very popular batteries, getting right replacement isn't always as easy as it looks like.
LR44/SR44SW Features and Specifications
LR44/SR44SW batteries physical dimensions are: diameter 11.6 mm, height 5.4 mm (0.4567 x 0.2126 inches) and weight in the 2.0 - 2.5 grams range.
Common chemistries include alkaline batteries, silver-oxide batteries, zinc-air batteries and now obsolete mercury-oxide batteries. To "help" with the confusion, many manufacturers label their batteries with the tags used for both alkaline and silver oxide batteries - just to emphasize that their batteries can be used as replacement for both alkaline (LR44) and silver oxide (SR44SW) batteries.
Typically, 11.6x5.4 mm batteries are labeled as:
- alkaline: LR44, LR1154, AG13, 76A, A76
- silver-oxide: SR44SW, SR44W, SR44, SR1154, 157, 303, 357, SG13, AG13, S76, A76

Alkaline button cell 11.6x5.4 mm batteries are commonly labeled as LR44, LR1154, AG13, 76A, A76, but there are other labels as well.
These batteries have nominal voltage of 1.5 volts, but when the battery is used, voltage drops over time. Their end-point voltage is around 0.9-1.0 volts, although end-voltage also depends on the used device.
Typical capacity of LR44 batteries is around 110-130 mAh, with shelf life between 2-5 years.
Silver-oxide button cell 11.6x5.4mm batteries are commonly labeled as SR44SW, SR44W, SR44, SR1154, 157, 303, 357, SG13, AG13, S76, A76 etc.
Silver-oxide batteries have slightly higher voltage than alkaline batteries (1.55 vs 1.5 volts), higher cut off voltage (1.2 vs 1.0 volts), they have more stable output voltage during use and they have larger capacity (150-200 mAh vs 110-130 mAh). Also, silver-oxide batteries commonly have longer shelf life (easily 5+ years from reputable brands).
On the other side, silver-oxide batteries cost more than alkaline batteries - this difference is almost negligible when just few batteries are required.
Thus, silver-oxide batteries are commonly used in electronic devices that require more stable voltage like wrist watches, some remote controls, calculators, etc.
Zinc-air button cell 11.6x5.4mm batteries are commonly labeled as PR44, Blue Tab, 675, ZA675, and 7003ZD. They have slightly lower nominal voltage (1.4 volts) which is very stable during use, with the cut off voltage of 1.2 volts.
Zinc-air batteries feature exceptionally large capacity, which is in the 600-700 mAh range. However, zinc-air batteries are almost exclusively used as hearing-aid batteries because they feature wet electrolyte and use oxygen from the air - when the electrolyte dries out, battery is dead.
These batteries have operating time in the range of few weeks and are seldom used in other applications other than hearing aid batteries.
Mercury-oxide button cell 11.6x5.4mm batteries are obsolete type of batteries due to the high mercury content. They were commonly labeled as MR44 or MR1154 batteries.
Their nominal and cut-off voltages are slightly lower than zinc-air batteries (1.4 vs 1.35 volts; 1.2 vs 1.1 volts) and their capacity is in the silver-oxide battery range (180-200 mAh vs 150-200 mAh).
Mercury-oxide batteries were used as alternative to alkaline batteries due to the larger capacity. After introduction of silver-oxide batteries, mercury-oxide batteries have been withdrawn from the market.

When searching for proper LR44/SR44SW battery replacement, SR44SW silver-oxide battery from the reputable brand is the best option. Such battery costs slightly more than equivalent LR44 battery, but better performances more than justify the price difference.
CR1/3N or CR11108 Battery
CR1/3N or CR11108 battery is non-rechargeable lithium 3.0 volts battery.
It is 11.6 mm in diameter and 10.8 mm in height and as such can be replaced with two LR44/SR44SW batteries and it can replace a stack of two LR44/SR44SW batteries.
Typical capacity of alkaline CR1/3N battery is ~160 mAh, while two SR44SW feature nominal voltage 3.1 volts, which is rather stable during use and nominal capacity in the 150-200 mAh range.
Note: when using two batteries connected in series, always use batteries from the same batch from the same manufacturer!
CR1/3N is commonly used in photo cameras, pet collars, compact LED flashlights and similar devices.
4LR44 and 4SR44 Batteries
4LR44 and 4SR44 batteries feature 13 mm diameter and 25.2 mm height.
Practically, these batteries are four LR44 or four SR44 batteries stacked together and as such, they feature nominal voltage of 6.0 volts (4LR44, consisting of four LR44 batteries) and 6.2 volts (4SR44, consisting of four SR44 batteries).
Nominal capacity of the 4LR44 battery is 110-130 mAh and 150-200 mAh for the 4SR44 battery.
4LR44 and 4SR44 batteries are used in certain cameras, medical devices, flashlights and similar. Some of these devices are even delivered with special LR44/SR44 holder, allowing the user to use both 4LR44/4SR44 or four of LR44/SR44 batteries.
Long Story Short: If you are looking for the LR44/SR44 battery replacements, go for the silver-oxide batteries from the reputable brands.
Such batteries usually come with 5+ year shelf life, feature good capacity, stable voltage and they justify slightly higher price when compared with the common LR44 batteries.
