ThorFire PF02 Tactical LED Flashlight

ThorFire PF02 Tactical LED Flashlight is practical and durable flashlight which can come handy in many situations. Due to its many features and acceptable price, it is highly recommended for people who like fishing and outdoor activities, regardless of weather or season.

ThorFire PF02 Tactical LED Flashlight uses CREE XP-G2 R5 LED with a lifespan of 20+ years of run time. Although, it is also rather durable LED and entire flashlight is made using aircraft aluminum, don't drop or throw flashlight around. However, this flashlight comes with an 'attack head' and, if required, can be used for self-defense.

ThorFire PF02 uses two AAA batteries and, depending on the store, they are usually NOT included.

Flashlight is rather compact - it is 5.7 inches (150 mm) long and 0.6 inches (15 mm) in diameter. Without batteries, it weighs only 44.5 grams (1.56 ounces).

Note on batteries: AAA batteries come in various chemistries and voltages. ThorFire PF02 operates using 1.5V and 1.2V batteries, so if one has rechargeable NiMH AAA batteries, even better.

For those who really like outdoor activities during bad weather, it is important to note that this flashlight is waterproof to IPX-7 standard - flashlight can withstand immersion in water up to 1 m for 30 minutes without being damaged. Obviously, this is not diver's flashlight, but if you are caught in heavy rain, don't worry about your flashlight.

Battery operate in several modes:

- Moonlight: Tap and hold; click to lock on; click again for off.

- High: Fast double-tap (within 2 seconds) and hold; click to lock on; click again for off.

- Low: Fast triple-tap (within 2 seconds per tap) and hold; click to lock on; click again for off.

(It perhaps sound complicated, but in real life, it takes just few seconds to get used to it.)

The flashlight doesn't memorize the last used brightness level, so the next time one turn the flashlight on (over 2 seconds after it is off), it will activate on moonlight output.

ThorFire PF01 Tactical LED Flashlight vs. ThorFire PF02 Tactical LED Flashlight

ThorFire PF02 is very similar to ThorFire PF01 LED flashlight, but they differ in few details:

- ThorFire PF01 uses one AAA battery, while ThorFire PF02 uses two AAA batteries. Hence, ThorFire PF02 has brighter light and can operate slightly longer, although this depends on used modes of operation and used batteries.

- ThorFire PF01 uses CREE XP-E2 R3 LED, while ThorFire PF02 uses stronger CREE XP-G2 R5 LED.

- ThorFire PF01 is shorter (105 mm) and lighter (33g).

Other than that, these flashlights are very similar.

Note: although these flashlights are excellent for their price, there is one thing that I don't like very much - PWM frequency. Light brightness is controlled by 'Pulse Width Modulator' (PWM) controller with very low frequency of only 122 Hz. Similar flashlights often use 1 kHz frequencies or even higher. In the 'Moonlight' mode, 122 Hz PWM gives feeling of strobe effect, not a continuous light. This 'strobe effect' is negligible, and in 'Low' mode really hard to see. In 'High' mode, PWM controller acts just like a ordinary switch (or at least it looks like one). Some people really don't like this 'strobe effect', personally, I didn't even notice it at first - not yet 100% sure even if it exists :)
