24V Lithium Batteries

24V lithium batteries are Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries intended for systems requiring more power than it is suitable/practical to provide using 12V systems.

By doubling the voltage, the required current is halved, leading to thinner wires and increased energy efficiency.

24V Lithium Batteries Features and Specifications

24V lithium batteries feature 8 (eight) 3.2V lithium cells connected in series, providing 25.6V nominal voltage, and if larger capacity is required, several such 8-cell sets are additionally connected in parallel.

While 24V lithium batteries can be replaced by a pair of 12V lithium batteries connected in series, a single 24V battery features fewer connections and less wiring, simplifying things.

For example, if an electric system requires a 2000W, 12.8V battery would have to provide 156.25 Amps, while a 25.6V battery would have to provide 78.125 Amps, which is much acceptable and easier to manage current.

Because of that, 24V lithium batteries are commonly used for electric trolling motors in 60-100 pounds thrust range, for RVs, golf carts, electric vehicles, for the off-the-grid electric systems, for medical and security systems usually requiring 1000+ watts of power, etc.

If required, some of the 24V lithium batteries support parallel/series connections, allowing the user to make 24V battery packs with larger capacity or to make 48V battery packs.

Note: Only 24V lithium battery models that are explicitly allowed by their manufacturer should be used to connect in parallel/series, as recommended by the very same manufacturer!

24V lithium batteries should be charged using 24V lithium battery chargers or advanced 24V AGM battery chargers featuring lithium battery charging modes.

Also, lithium batteries may be recharged using solar panels connected to MPPT charge controllers featuring 24V lithium battery charging port(s).

When compared with 24V lead-acid batteries (or battery packs), 24V lithium batteries offer great weight savings, an 8-10x increase in the number of supported charging cycles, excellent energy efficiency when discharged with ~1C currents, etc.

24V lithium batteries tend to be more expensive than 24V lead-acid battery packs, but in the long run, lithium batteries save money and are actually cheaper.
